The name change to 'Wanganella' came about in 1884 when Mrs Marie Peppin bought hte house and named it after her husband's family's merino sheep property 'Wanganella' in Deniliquin NSW. Church Statement of Significance: One of Melbourne's earliest bluestone churches, of which the four bay nave of 1850-1 was designed by Newson & Blackburn. Other work, since largely reversed, was by Charles Webb in 1855-6, and Nathaniel Billing was responsible for the north aisle of 1863-4 and the south aisle and chancel between 1868 and 1876.
